Question by Jerry Yang: How long does it usually take to get an amended tax refund?
I e-filed my tax returns about a month ago and I already got my refund check back. However, we didn’t explain my other fees and expenses so we had to do an amended tax return. we couldn’t e-file an amended tax return so we had to mail it in. we did this about a week ago. we checked the IRS website and they claimed it could take about 8-12 weeks to issue amended returns. My question is, does it really take that long? Has any one on here had to do that? How long did it take to get your amended refund back?

8-12 weeks is no joke. Sometimes it could take up to 16 weeks. I would suggest to give yourself more time to go over your tax returns before you e-file it in the beginning. It’s always painful if you have to submit an amended tax return and wait up to 16 weeks. You can’t really e-file your amended tax returns to the IRS. The only choice is to mail the amended tax return to the IRS, not E-filed and that’s why it takes so long to receive the amended tax refunds. But late is better than never, isn’t it?
